With matched betting, I supplement my income and in this post, I will show you where My May matched betting profits came from. Matched betting is a tax-free way to earn money from home, with as much time as you want to spend on it. I started with just £10 in September 2018 and have now made £8,040 from matched betting. This month, my profit is £623. See here how I made £975 last month and how this fits into my grand plan.

This month I lost Starsports and Paddy Power. I could not care less for Starsports but losing Paddy was really sad for me. I have had my Paddy account since September 2018 and after the gubbing email came, I took a few days off matched betting to recover from it. Find out how to maximise your profit from gubbed accounts.
Luckily, I then convinced a friend to sign-up with Paddy so I can still make use of them, albeit not as freely as before. On the bright side, I found a few new bookies to sign-up with, STSbet, Rubybet, Interbet and Givemebet.
What offers did I complete?
Sports – May matched betting profits
Of my May matched betting profits, £178 came from horse racing. This is much lower than in previous months due to the fact that I had fewer offers come in. Most of my horses won so I would have made a great gambler this month. On the other hand, I am sure that if I had not laid my bets, my horses would have all lost. I do not have access to easy free bets anymore, so I rely on horses placing second for refund offers or placing fifth/sixth for extra places. These can be found on the OddsMonkey Racing Matcher or Extra Place Matcher.
This month, only £249 of my May matched betting profits came from football offers. I only had one 2up (Bet365’s offer) come in. For the remainder, I just had to eat the qualifying losses (QLs)… There were a few offers for the leagues’ finals but to be honest, the weather was great so I rather went out. There was a lot more earning potential in this section but I did not make use of it.
The GoWager group (GoWager, JenningsBet, 7BestBets, BruceBetting) had a few bets £20 get £5 as free bet offers. I saw many people complain about their bad odds and dismiss these offers, although due to their number, there is substantial potential for profit. While it is true that their odds are not the best, the both-teams-to-score market and the over 1.5 goals, etc markets are usually still profitable. Another method to increase profit with in-play bets is to bet on these markets at game start and then lay at half time. As soon as a goal is shot, the lay odds will drop considerably. Be aware that lay odds will rise if there is no goal in the first half though.
To find 2ups, I use the 2up filter on OddsMonkey. For the in-play offers I mentioned as well as further football offers, use the OddsMonkey Daily Offer List. You should complete as many of these offers as you can to maximise your profit.
The loss of -£15 in this category comes mostly from golf extra places. I literally backed the five golfers placing 1-5 and none who placed in the extra places (6-10). This was totally not my month for extra places! Extra places overall have a positive expected value (EV), but extended periods of losses are normal due to variance. You can read up on variance in my free low-risk casino guide. Although sports bets and slot offers are different, they follow the same core principle.
Casino – May matched betting profits
For slot offers, I regularly complete the weekly GoWager, Betfred Casino/Games and BuzzBingo offers. Then I supplement this with all other offers that give wager free spins which I find on OddsMonkey. If you are not restricted with Sky and Betfair Casinos, you can also complete their daily offers. This month, Aspers Casino and MeccaBingo had a few notable offers. I also complete the GalaBingo Happy Wheel daily (wagering on Blackjack).
In May, I was expecting to earn around £300 from low-risk casino offers, yet my actual profit was only £137. This is due to the natural variance of low-risk casino offers. In the previous months, I made more than I would have normally expected and therefore, it is not unusual that I made less profit this month. You can learn how to complete low-risk casino offers using my free guide, which will also teach you about EV and variance.
Of my May matched betting profits, £24 come from other casino offers. This comes from completing the daily free offers every single day. I was also lucky and got another round of deposit bonuses from the Gamesys sites. They usually give you a random amount (mine was £4.95 that has to be wagered once. You can just play five £1 rounds of Blackjack and then withdraw the winnings (deposit and withdraw if below the limit).
Other – May matched betting profits
I finally received the cashback for an offer I did in November last year. While most cashback becomes payable within 2 months, some casinos take a bit longer. Learn how to make money with cashback casinos. I also surprisingly found some money hanging out in my less often used accounts. Other than this, this section also includes my monthly OddsMonkey fee of £12.50. I use the annual subscription and pay myself back monthly. As you can see from my May matched betting profits, the subscription fee is totally worth it and OddsMonkey essentially pays for itself.
How much time did I spend on matched betting?
This May we had very good weather, meaning I spent more of my free time outside rather than stuck in front of the PC screen. I am already stuck at the desk all day in my full-time job so sitting down to do matched betting while the sun is shining is a challenge. Most of my weekends I had plans with friends so I was not able to take advantage of most Saturday offers. Overall, I do not think I spent more than 10 hours per week on matched betting this month.
May matched betting profits: conclusion
This month I earned far less than in previous months and it annoys me that this reduces my average profit. On one hand, I only have myself to blame for not spending more time on matched betting, especially since football has become quite now. I can only realistically bet on horses during weekends but this month, I prioritised other things instead. And I do not see this changing for June either. On the other hand, the variance was not kind to me in May and I hope to fare better in May. But who can tell?
